Deadhead Rum - Rum on the brain

I had discovered Deadhead Rum after a very lovely lady had spotted it on Amazon and thought that I'd appreciate the design - I did and I became an instant fan.

The first thing that will grab your attention is the bottle because it's a bloody shrunken head with its eye stitched up! The shrunken heads are known as Tsantsa to the Shuar people; an indigenous group of people from Ecuador and Peru. Tsantsa are created in a grotesque manner which involves flesh, brains and fat is removed from the head and a wooden ball is inserted in their place to retain shape, lovely.

I'm sure the Deadhead bottles are not made in the same manner!

Once you get past the awesome packaging, you can get to the part that really matters, the content. Some describe the taste as grassy with hints of mint chocolate. However, when I tasted it I found it was sweet and fruity with a caramel taste that finishes up with a medium length oak warmth and a dry down of lemon peel freshness.

This Rum is from the southern state of Chiapas, Mexico and is 40% alcohol content. It's good to note that there is no sugar or colourings added during the distilling process.

One of my more recent purchases of this bottle was via Amazon, in the form of a miniature which I find is a really cool collectable (As is the big bottle, of course) and at £9.99 a bottle you can't really go wrong if you are just wanting to sample it.

I've had it both with a mixer (Coke) and on its own and I prefer to drink it straight, with ice.

Have you tried this rum yet? I will be getting some more of these for Halloween and will be using them as a centrepiece for any parties I might hold.

Comments are appreciated!

  11. That bottle!!! Very unusally. I'm not a lover of run after an encounter with one too many watermelon bacardi breezers at the age of 18. I know that is a bad judge of rum but its ruined it for me!!! :(
